Review on πŸ’§ Coghlan's Expandable Water Carrier: Convenient 2-Gallon Solution in White by Jeffrey Mosqueda

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best of Multiple Variables

This rating is based on my experience with this water carrier over the past few years. I rented one from a canoe vendor in northern Minnesota for a BWCA canoe trip. Haven't used this particular one I bought from Revain yet, will be using this summer. But I've used this particular model on a number of occasions. This is a great water tank for easy use around the country. When empty, it is as thick as a paper book and about the size of a newspaper square. and can slide along the inner wall of your backpack very easily. It's light and flexible. Filled with water, it expands in the middle and looks almost like a pillow. It's a bit bulky as it can be easily removed when it's on its side. But you can't store it on the side because it will leak slowly. So you need to set it up properly when it's full but not in use. And then tilt it to the side to dose. You can also cast it in other ways, e.g. B. Hold and pour like a pitcher, but this is not an option for everyone as 2 gallons of water is very heavy. So I like to lay it on its side and just turn on the faucet, which allows hands-free access to the water. I've read that a lot of people fill it up and pack and unpack it. I've found it to leak out of the spout, so personally I probably wouldn't use it that way. But I don't usually pack things in places where water isn't available. I use it in the BWCA to retain excess water that I have already filtered out so it is ready to use. The frontier waters are filled with unlimited clean fresh water, so it takes me about 10 feet at most to carry this container. (If I were camping, I'd probably put water in Nalgene bottles and pack.) As I said, I've used this item before and the ones I've used have held up well. So I never smelled any. or the taste that water takes on because of plastic. I'll update my review once I use the new one I just bought and let people know if it has a bad taste or smell. The advantages of this item are that it is very light, is made of soft, flexible plastic (but not as soft/flexible as square gallon water pots), is easy to pack, and holds a decent amount of water. The handle is sturdy, and for something so small, it stretches to hold a decent amount of water. It also has a valve that provides a continuous flow, which is handy for hands-free washing, washing dishes, filling water bottles and pots, etc. The downsides are that it doesn't stand alone or on a tree). leaks slowly if left lying. All in all, the combination of how much it holds and how light it is, compared to opting for something arguably stronger, but stiffer, got me going.
