I''ll never know if these are effective at blocking noise. The exterior is soft, but the cylindrical piece that goes in the center, to give them form to be able to push into the ar - this piece is HUGE and HARD. I don''t have tiny ears - normal sized. But these, I culdn''t begin to fit into my ear. I gave them 2 stars because the string is a nice idea snd that they give you several pairs is cool. If you have HUGE ear canals, and don''t mind something hard sticking in them, then these are for you!
