This Opus charger is really good! I'm a flash photographer and flashlight lover, so I have a lot of AA and AAA batteries that need regular charging. Not surprisingly, I also have several smart chargers. My main workhorse for over 10 years has been the Maha 8-Bay C800S. Unfortunately he recently passed away. My favorite (until Opus came along) is the LaCrosse BC-700 4 Bay. A good (old but good) device for on the go was the Maha MH-C204F as it comes with both a car charger and AC power. I have an older model IC-1029-S08 HiTech with 10 slots, it is very slow and therefore hardly used. And some others. some are a little smart, some are a little dumb. I was looking for a new 8 disc but after reading about Opus (especially the NLee engineer's review. Excellent and comprehensive as always!) I got very curious so I bought one. I'm glad I did! The technicalities have been well covered by others, but I'll mention a few specific details that impressed me. The display backlight is very useful. The Opus is larger than the LaCrosse, but the extra space between and under the batteries really makes them cooler. With a charging current of 200 mA, they do not exceed room temperature. With a current of 400 mA, it practically does not heat up. The batteries stay cooler than any other charger I've used and the charging speed is excellent. Buttons and logic make it easy to switch between different charging modes and speeds and check the performance of different cells. I highly recommend Opus! Even better, this is an excellent price compared to its competitors.
