Review on Espresso Bathroom Spacesaver - UTEX Over-The-Toilet 3-Shelf Organizer by Isaac Islam

Nice stand at a great price, but some assembly notes (see below). Recommended

I have an older home, and while some of it was remodeled, the upstairs still has the same layout that it did in the 60s. For the bathrooms, that means that they're smaller that what you'd get in new construction today. It also means that there's less storage. To help alleviate that, I got the UTEX 3-Shelf Bathroom Organizer Over The Toilet, Bathroom Spacesaver (Espresso).Typical of flat-pack furniture, the shelves arrived in a large, flat box. The contents were protected with plastic sheeting and Styrofoam, with all of the pieces intact and unblemished. You also get all of the hardware and instructions. You assemble the shelves, and then attach them, and the crossmembers, to the legs. Assembly took about 15 minutes, but I wasn't trying to set any speed records. It's helpful to use a ratcheting screwdriver, as that will save you a ton of time. I wouldn't use power tools, even with an adjustable clutch, given how delicate the boards are. You will want to pay extra attention to the machine screws that go into the threaded inserts, as the clamping force can easily overcome the material it's set into. So, I assembled the unit in the den and carried it upstairs. Oops. As soon as I carried it into the bathroom I realized my mistake - one of the crossmembers needs to go BEHIND the toilet. With no room to slide the crossmember behind the toilet tank, I just detached two machine screws, put the crossmember behind the base of the toilet, and reattached it. I also attached the shelves to the wall, despite having to clear a tile façade on the lower half of the wall. There's a little racking, which is a lack of lateral rigidity, to the shelves before you attach them to the wall. Once attached, the structure is pretty solid. I've included a photo of the end result. For me, the UTEX shelf is pretty nice. While it's not solid wood, the surface finish and general feel are good enough to fool most. I elected to not put the plastic caps on the hex screws, as I feel it looks better with the screws exposed. They're counter sunk, and the hardware matches in color pretty well, so it has a nice industrial vibe to it. The caps, on the other hand, are cheap domed plastic that doesn't match the surface finish very well. In total, I find the organizer to be quite nice. The best thing I can say about it, is that it looks more expensive than it is, and it's pretty sturdy for the price. Recommended
