I installed the lockout as part of the main panel upgrade (maintenance from 100A to 200A). Installation was simple, easy and significantly less expensive than a switch. My 8kW generator can power the entire house (20+ circuits), while the inexpensive transfer switches are only rated for 10 circuits. The emergency power system has been tested several times and works perfectly. Transferring power from the grid to the generator set is quick and easy. I recommend the following procedure to avoid power spikes and surges: (1) Plug the generator into an outlet at home. (2) Start generator. (3) Turn off each circuit breaker in the control cabinet. (4) Turn off the main switch. (5) Slide the latch up to lock the main switch handle. (6) Turn on alternator return switch. (7) Turn on selected individual circuit breakers as needed in emergency situations. PLEASE NOTE: BASED ON THE RATING OF YOUR GENERATOR AND THE NUMBER OF CIRCUIT BREAKERS IN YOUR ELECTRICAL PANEL YOU CANNOT POWER THE ENTIRE HOUSE! Restore mains voltage in reverse order.
