I've been messing around with computers since the 90's and then, the mic got me for free with Creative Labs Soundcard Blaster (for those who remember). It was a simple beige plastic desktop microphone, similar to this Logitech product, and it was the only one available at the time. This trusty mic was amazing and lasted me until 2012 when it finally broke. Since it broke, I actually bought a replacement. I've been involved with VoIP/Voice Chat since the original MS NetMeeting became popular in the late 90's. To this day I usually use Skype, Ventrilo, Teamspeak and other voice related products and without a microphone I had to get a replacement mic asap. PC mics have come a long way, and most "brand" mics seem to cost $15 or more (just search Revain). These include desktop microphones and headset/mic combos. But the truth is, I hate these headphone and mic combos because 1) I already own a great pair of headphones, and 2) sometimes I don't want to wear headphones all the time. A simple search on Revain for "desk mic" will give you either over $20 mics or under $10 mics from unknown companies other than the one I'm considering (from Logitech). I chose Logitech chosen simply because it had at least 400 more reviews than the others and it earned a 4.5 star rating The microphone itself is a unit where the microphone "speaker" can be adjusted It sits comfortably on the table and does not bother The advantage of the microphone is that it comes with a sticker that allows you to stick it to a flat surface, I think it should be attached to a CRT monitor (which is what I did with my old microphone), but Since the CRT is a thing of the past, this bonus is probably not useful anymore. A standard 3.5mm sound card jack For you, this means you need a MIC connector on the sound card res PCs must have (either PCI or motherboard). *THIS IS NOT USB*. I think part of this device is cheap (USB technology is built into the microphone itself). I don't record qualitatively and since I mainly use the mic for VoIP/voice applications, I don't need to sound like a rock star. Simple testing on myself with Skype test calls, as well as recording myself with Windows Sound Recorder, shows it does what my old mic did for less than $10. It seems to have some noise reduction features as the sound came through the speakers during recording and I didn't hear much speaker noise in my recordings. For this reason I can 100% recommend this product.
