The buckle is not very good quality metal and I suspect it is electroplated. However, I don't think this will affect the lifespan or use of this product in any way. While there's a lot to be said for leather style, I find durability and simplicity far more important. Conclusion: If you want a simple but strong and reliable belt, I would buy this instead of a leather belt anytime.
