I installed the device in about 45 minutes. The most difficult part of the installation was mounting the unit behind the head unit. I had a few issues after installation, but that was configuration. I couldn't turn off Bluetooth in the car, so the microphone didn't work during a call. In addition, the scroll wheel on the steering wheel was not activated by default. After updating the settings, the device had to be restarted. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of documentation. There are a few items in the settings that I don't really know what they do. I have also driven the car about 8 times since it was installed. The last couple of times the phone didn't connect automatically. I had to go into the menu and manually connect it to my phone for some reason (made sure it wasn't connected to another wifi at the time). Switching between CarPlay and the built-in system is hassle-free. I remember reading that you press the menu button for 4 seconds, but it doesn't last 4 seconds. This is a fast press. When reversing, the reversing camera and radar are displayed. Also, the radar would appear when entering an area where I was in close proximity to something (while driving, not reversing). I like the full screen view as well as the split screen option. Too bad there is no update for the touchscreen. Also not a huge phone with the need to run an audio cable to the center console. Still, that's a small price to pay for CarPlay in the 2014 X5. If anything changes drastically, good or bad, I'll update the review. So far I am very happy with the purchase.
