Review on πŸš€ Enhanced Precision with the Voxelab Industrial Structure Precision Extruder by Joseph Stone

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Super easy setup and use. Great first 3D printer.

Media could not be loaded. The first thing I noticed upon unboxing this printer was that (to my surprise) it wasn't covered by the clear plastic panels. It looks like it in the pictures, but it isn't. It should be easy to cut some plastic sheeting to fit the holes on the sides, but you'll need room at the top for the bowden cable and wiring harness, so you'll need a domed case. We hope Voxelab will offer them as optional accessories in the future. The printer comes with a really nice little USB stick, along with a filament sample and a tool kit. Combined with the front USB port, this is a convenient way to transfer files to the printer when you don't want to connect to Wi-Fi. Although Wi-Fi is very convenient. For those new to 3D printing, this is a good choice for an "unpack and go" printer. After removing the packaging and some zip ties, there is nothing to assemble other than attaching the filament spool holder to the back of the printer body. When you have everything ready and want to print a file, you can go from unpacking to printing in no time. The glass plate is ideal for PLA. After the print cools to room temperature, it peels off very easily, but adheres well during printing. I always wipe the glass down with isopropyl alcohol between prints to make sure there isn't any oil on my fingers that could affect adhesion. I really liked the smart plate clips for attaching to the bed. The Voxelab website mentions that they are a subsidiary of FlashForge and the slicer software will be familiar if you have used Flash Print. This software seems to be a bit more flexible in the settings, but it might just be the "advanced mode" which I disabled in FlashPrint. I've tried connecting FlashPrint to see if I can use the same slicer as the FlashForge printer with this machine, but it looks like a VoxelMaker slicer is needed. The hot end appears to be compatible with the Ender series hot end type. Printer so you can switch to an E3D or MicroSwiss hotend in the future and this will require swapping out standard nozzles. However, if you're going to an upgraded hotend, you won't be able to exceed the firmware's max nozzle temperature, so exotic high-temp filaments like carbon fiber nylon are unlikely to be used unless custom firmware is available. Another feature that I really like is the hotend lighting, which can be switched on and off via the touchscreen. After connecting to Wi-Fi, I tried updating the firmware from the front panel. It goes through the process and displays a message that the update is complete, but then just hangs and prevents the update from completing. I have turned the device off and on again, but the check still says new firmware is available. The same process is repeated. I'll have to try updating via USB to see if the latest version installs successfully. Leveling was a bit faster than I'm used to because it only took 3 points to level. I would have preferred to have an automatic touch alignment system, but it doesn't actually "align" the bed, rather it stores the offsets for the printer to apply to the gcode. After using this leveling process as per the voxelab sheet paper video, a good first coat is applied with no dragging or skipping. Thread loading is a noisy process. I think the extruder actually sticks it in for the first little robot, either that or it expects you to just feed the filament past the gear in the extruder so it can push it all the way through the bowden. You have to wait to stop feeding after the previous color of filament is blown through the nozzle. When running while printing, it's not as quiet as a closed printer, but it's not a particularly noisy printer either. The print quality is comparable to other printers I have used. The real advantage of this printer is that it is very easy to set up. Downloading and installing the software took as long as opening the box, cutting the zip ties, and plugging in the printer. I think if you want a basic entry level printer for PLA and ABS and don't want to mess with assembly and setup. , it is a good choice to get high-quality prints instantly. Added convenience features like Wi-Fi file transfer and management, hot-end lighting, assisted filament swapping, and low filament sensor make this a great printer for those who just want something that works, without knowing as much about it as possible having to learn * how it works.
