Review on Chemical Guys GAP_VKIT_16 Polish Compound by Dana Schmidt

Disappointing paste and polish

I am a professional painter and have been using pastes and polishes for over 10 years. This is a typical weak water based compound that CANNOT remove real sand marks or even swirl marks. I always prepare my paints and resins with the right sanding methods from 600 to 3000. I bought this system with little hope that it would be a great product but like many other water/ceramic based systems it cannot mix. to remove strong or light traces of sanding, in fact today I used the whole system after using a real paste (Menzerna Paste by Jescar) and not succeeding in removing the lightest marks of corrugation / traces of sanding paste. To be clear, I use a high speed polisher for compounding and then a low speed random orbital polisher for polishing and glazing. Chemical Guys products are too weak for either a base poly or a standard NC paint. After much frustration I cleaned up the product and finally got back to products that really work: a wool pad with Menzerna paste and a foam pad with Jescar machine glaze. After 15 minutes I had a perfectly smooth surface with virtually no scratches that didn't require cleaning other than a quick wipe. Bottom line, water-based sucks for people who don't know water-based sucks. This product speaks volumes about the optical quality. Whatever that means. ***Note: I purchased their 5 inch foam pads and pad conditioner and am very happy with these products. In fact, these are my new glaze cloths and cleaners and I will continue to use them regularly.
