It's not clear why the cable fails so quickly. However, after 5 weeks it stopped working and I can no longer return it. I was about to throw the device away thinking it was broken, luckily I tried a different device cable and found the device to work, but that cable broke. Crazy why a USB cable breaks for no apparent reason, it's a passive device unless there's poor quality control.
