I'm 65 years old and have a lot of back, joint and knee problems and surgeries and once I reach the stairs it's difficult to go up to the roof dangerous when nobody around might hold the ladder for stability. The same applies to going down the stairs. This tool does the job! It securely fastens the ladder to the gutter and prevents lateral movement in all directions or slipping back. Another benefit is that the ladder doesn't move when hit by my hose or leaf blower causing it to tip over and fall to the ground getting me stuck on the roof (this happened prior to this purchase).
