Review on Imperial Premium Range Exhaust VT0500 by Terry Kohl

Revainrating 5 out of 5

No more noisy dogs or children!

Oh my god! So I bought this and left it in the box for about a month before I finally found the energy and time to replace it and wow what a difference. My old one was flimsy and didn't really have any sort of gasket, just a very loose flap on the inside that was supposed to keep out drafts, but failed miserably. Does it even let the sunlight in somehow? So I ripped out the old one and prepared my house for the new one. I did this with aviation snips, slotted locks, a hammer and a chisel. My house is brick so I just used a hammer and chisel to scrape off the old grout. Simply tilt the chisel at a sharp angle to avoid damaging the brick, and with a few light taps the sealant will scrape away instantly. I used Tuff Stuff to fill in the big gaps and it worked great. Spray a little more to ensure any remaining gaps have been filled. I used plastic anchors to secure the 4 bolts for this thing and sealant to make it airtight and watertight. A good bead of gasket on the back and a bead of gasket on the rim when screwed down. Then inside I used foil tape to seal everything against the drywall. I took the opportunity to caulk the fan area on the range hood so it directs more air out. I also used 1/4" wide weatherstripping around the exhaust side of the hood to make sure it's airtight. Now it's all done. old vent, I don't hear the loud wild neighbor kids anymore, I don't hear their little yapping ones anymore dog and now when we cook the food smell no longer spreads throughout the house I highly recommend taking extra steps to ensure it is airtight on the hood side I have a good feeling this will be a long time will hold.

Pros
  • Energy efficient sealed design
Cons
  • Legacy model
