Used DVD drive 12 years in a new case

Very poor quality, no longer functional after a month. I had initial problems with this drive and was only able to get it to work once after several successful attempts. Now, a month later, it no longer works. I keep getting the message "I/O error". Update: I took the drive apart to check the connections and found that the DVD drive was clearly used and manufactured 12 years ago.
