I've never been a coach but I've been trying to teach my kids how to protect themselves. They have a pocket but I really wanted mittens so they converge. I've watched a few YouTube videos on how to use the mittens and so far they've worked well. The part of the glove for your hand is a bit odd as I have a feeling it was made for both left and right hands and not specifically for one hand. For the most part, I don't think it would work too badly with my young children wearing these gloves, but I think if they were bigger or really good at hitting, the design of the glove might be an issue. Since I wear my hand in a glove, it's a bit harder for me to keep my fingers together. So when I land awkwardly on my pinky on impact, I feel a slight tension in my wrist, ring finger, and pinky. That being said I find the quality of the gloves good for what I need them for, they definitely absorb my kids' impact and I feel they have helped them focus, do footwork and move better than one standard bag. .
