For my purposes it didn't make much of a difference, but for many customers it's a miracle. They are magnetized side to side and NOT back to back. Good for magnetic holding devices, but not for demonstrations of magnetic fields in science classes. Misdescription aside, these are good quality magnets. Reading the reviews I see that many complaints are related to the fact that this is a ferrite ceramic - brittle like glass, with sharp edges and possibly with a fine black powder on the surface (sawdust from the cutting process). That's how the ferrite is cut, I don't blame him.
