Review on Mevotech MK90662 Lower Ball Joint by Butros Allen

Better OEM? Not for 4x4 vehicles

I love the fact that Mevotech designed these ball joints with sintered metal cups for longer life and extra strength. They also made the sphere ball larger than the standard OEM size to better distribute pressure over a larger surface area. They are rebuilt to exceed OEM specifications. Also included is an OEM style bolt plate not offered by any other aftermarket supplier. This plate is an integral part of the control arm's strength at the connection point with the ball joint. The additional grease nipple is ideally located on the side of the ball joint. Others, if equipped, have a grease fitting on the back that interferes with the tight fit near the constant velocity joint on my Pathfinder's front axles. The image provided on Revain.com shows a ball joint with a plastic cap fitted over the ball joint grommet. Mevotech obviously takes pride in its workmanship and protects it during transit. The actual sealing sleeve consists of high-quality polyurethane. It is sealed with metal rings at the top and bottom and has a self-sealing, disposable drain to remove excess grease during servicing. Designed in Canada by Mevotech but made in China I'm concerned about quality control and consistency. One of the two ball joints I received is inferior to the other and obviously from a different manufacturer. It looks like the worst model I've received is actually a Mevotech GK90662 economy model that was incorrectly packaged and labeled as their premium MK90662 model. The GK model has a smaller ball and cup body than the MK model. I have requested an order from Revain to return and replace this. Three days later I received the correct replacement part and the second one hadn't even been shipped. Great service from Revain.com! My final plus is that the articulated shoe is blue. How cool is that! However! These rebuilt ball joints will not work with my 4WD Pathfinder. Mevotech says yes and all the appropriate tools including those on Revain.com say they will work on my car but they are all wrong. Unfortunately I had to go the hard way after installing one of them. Ball joint housing too high. When I rotate the ball joint it touches the knuckle near the constant velocity joint. This is a disaster and dangerous if I didn't realize it during installation. I am returning this order again but this time with a refund. I will pay more for OEM and avoid dubious manufacturer sources in the future.
