Tank thermometer works exactly as written. There are clear readings (and fairly accurate!) of temperature in the air or under water. Just give him a few minutes to calm down. I use this thermometer when I do water changes on my 20 gallon tank because I need to adjust the temp to the nearest degree. I can do it with this thermometer. It already comes with a battery, as well as a small instruction manual and suction cups (to keep the temp reader in the tank at the correct level). To turn it on, press the "Pwr" button. To turn it off, simply press and hold the "Pwr" button until it turns off. Really easy. Obviously this isn't perfect (I haven't found two thermometers that give exactly the same readings yet, but as long as they can give reasonably accurate readings I'm happy. And whether I'm matching 72 degrees to 72 or 75 degrees to 75, as long as the water has the same temperature, my fish will be happy.
