Works with Cricut Explore Air 2 but engraving isn't the best

Ordered this for my Cricut Air Explore 2. cannot display the text I engrave unless it is large text. I tried several different fonts, sizes and settings on my cricket and the only thing that came out as "good" was the dollar store cake server and the block text displayed fine, not italic. :( Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong (maybe because I'm new to this) but I had high hopes for this and everything I will do for my new pup!
