When I first got this sharpener just two months ago it was great. It sharpens fairly quietly (compared to the old Xacto brand sharpener I've been using for 10 years) and I've had less trouble sharpening the #2 pencils my son uses at school well. However, last night my son sharpened his pencil and the engine would not stop. I had to unplug the device to turn it off. This sharpener was only used to sharpen a few pencils! Maybe up to thirty uses. School only started two weeks ago, and it's already less useful than we'd like. I have contacted the company and yes I can send the sharpener back to them for warranty service but you will have to pay for shipping the sharpener - but to be honest I'm not sure I would want a replacement. What are the odds that it was actually defective and not just generally built of poor quality? I was hoping a support person would tell me this is a common problem and how to fix it, rather than immediately offering to return it to the store (which I can't) or return them for a replacement.
