Although Bettas don't need it, they help keep the aquarium clean! Also soft enough for my fish. I've had it for almost 2 months with no problems. The bubbles aren't very loud either, you hardly notice them. The filter is easy to clean and once a month is sufficient. Be sure to purchase an aerator as it is not included. I bought a Hygger aerator and it is 100% compatible! Edit: Have been using this product and the Hygger aerator successfully for almost a year with no problems. This product is used in my 5 gallon aquarium.
