Simple, cheap, plug and play status for RPi

I linked this to some of my Raspberry Pi headless "servers" to access some statistics. You can even do some interactions since they have buttons. I say "plug and play" because the adafruit website has instructions on how to set up statistics for PiHole. (which is easy to modify to print what you want if you know basic python). On one of these displays, I followed adafruit's guide to displaying animated GIFs and was surprised at how sharp they looked for such a small and inexpensive screen. One note: If you have your Pi mounted in a case OR have other devices that need access to 3V3 or 5V rails, I would suggest you use something like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product /B06WWRZ7PS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089GGR6HB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to push the GPIO pins up through the case slot (you have a case with a hole above the GPIO pins right?) and be able to split SOME of the pins (for example 3V3 and 5V are connected to a common rail as long as you keep an eye on your amps, can you split them). I have displays on Pis with a temperature sensor, so among other things I show the room temperature. To do this I had to share the 3V3 pin that this display covers to power the sensor, so the GPIO stack did the trick. That's my only downside as they cover all the power contacts!

Pros
  • This display is very small, only about 1.14 inches diagonally, but as it is an IPS display, it is very good with high contrast and clarity readable.
Cons
  • Some little things
