Definitely a great buy. My daughter loves this thing very much. I couldn't get her to do anything (make dinner, do the dishes) but now she's just standing right next to me. Much easier to wash your hands in the sink. Yes, it is recommended to fill the sides with sand. They were supposed to let you know before you buy it, but it was a minor inconvenience. I ended up using cat litter because none of the stores stocked sand. Apart from the need for sand, the complete assembly took about 20 minutes. The downstairs toy compartment is my daughter's new favorite place to hide things. It is durable and easy to clean. The cutouts on the sides are quite large.
