Review on Boy Striped Pajamas Blu Ray Digital by Josh Zuvers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best must in my rating

Most films about World War II deal with German aggression. But what happened in the country before it was demolished? How did the citizens live and react to the horrors of their government? This film offers poignant (and seldom seen) information on the subject. Bruno is a little German boy who lives a typical 8-year life, unaware of the horrors around him and abroad. Early on, his father (an obvious "Aryan") moved to the country, much to Bruno's dismay. He is all alone with his sister and his tutor. until he makes his way to the "farm" he sees in the distance. It's actually a concentration camp where he befriends a boy of the same age, Shmuel. Even if only once is not a joyful film - this film is worth seeing because we can all learn lessons from it. - Children are innocent creatures who only become evil if you teach them to. Gretel swallows all of her mentor's propaganda without thinking, and Bruno asks why the Jews are supposedly so evil. This innocence is also evident in his friendship with Shmuel, who he believes is not evil at all. Power is a dangerous drug that turns those who use it into hypocrites. Bruno's grandmother openly opposes the regime, but her son (Bruno's father) tries to hide it. But when the loyalty of another officer's father does not reach 100%, Bruno's father immediately condemns this and says that the soldier will be sent to the front. Once the "other" is completely dehumanized, we realize too late what that means. Like many other people, Bruno's mother feels completely out of touch with the Jews. But when she is implicitly told what her husband's job means, she is completely overwhelmed and distances herself from him. I wonder if she could stand up to the witnesses in Nuremberg? And the father also understands (too late) what his work really means and achieves. It's hard to see, but it shows how far humanity can fall. Let's NEVER do that again against ANY group.
