I give it one star because it doesn't shed any kind of liquid. I bought two of these new mattresses to protect them from potty training. Good thing I bought plastic bags to store the mattresses otherwise both mattresses would be broken. My son's spill proof bottle lay on the bed and leaked a little and it went right through the mattress protector. Then he had an accident and drove through again. Worst money spent. A complete waste and frustration, I spent over $50 on two of them. The discount store works better than these, and let's face it, they're not the best either. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Whether it's due to incontinence or just trying to protect it from spills. It didn't work for me or for me.
