Review on Red Kohler GP83064 2-Inch Toilet Flapper by Barry Hill

Kohler flaps work in Kohler toilets

We have 3 Kohler toilets in our house, they get a lot of use, over the years we have found that mainly Kohler (and Lavelle (Korky)) flaps were made specifically for valves , they are the only ones that work reliably, almost everything else is leaking. We usually have a useful life of more than 5 years. The local Home Depot and Lowes seem to be uneven about stocking this item, as do plumbing stores (they'll order it for you, of course), but I find the best approach is to just have a spare, and I can usually get those by Revain. There are a few tricks to ordering and installing them. Firstly, Kohler had many different flapper valves over the year, usually the best way to find the number is in the installation manual or on their website (there is a model number stamped on the toilet lid). Second, when you install them, try just the shock first, slide it into the saddle, and if it doesn't stop leaking pretty quickly, a little petroleum jelly will help with seating. If you have water with a high mineral content. You'll need to clean the shock from time to time, ours turn white but as long as you keep them clean they should serve well for years. It's made of high quality rubber, the flap is pretty strong, definitely not brittle, that's probably why they work better. Not cheap, but as with many plumbing supplies, you get what you pay for.
