I appreciate this product very much. The tops of stairs are sometimes so difficult to install baby gates! This allowed us to use the Cardinal Gates Stairway Special Gate, which was the only one we found that didn't require a nearly 90 degree fit on either side of the stairway to work. I swear finding something for the top of our stairs drove me crazy - ordering and returning things, finding possible hacks, etc. It was the missing piece that helped me solve the puzzle. A wooden pole is the best I could do. I have - sanded, with smooth velcro slots, painted nicely etc. I don't know what the plastic clips are for. In my situation, they didn't do anything useful, so I gave up on them. Yes, it's a simple solution, but I agree! On the other hand, the board was still allowed to wobble, even when strapped as tightly as possible and even with the little foam pads that came with the kit (hence the 4 stars - it was almost game over). However, I fixed this problem with command strips. These things are amazing. We had no issues or wobbles even after some hard test judders/clicks. It's been a few months now.
