All adhesives have an "expiration date " and yours may have expired (the adhesive is not yours)

The problem I had was that the adhesive was old and just not sticky . Please note that I have used this product in the past and it has worked great. The problem is that once you cut it to size and then peel off the backing and find that it isn't sticky, it can't be returned. So it has an expiration date, like all glue, and if it's been lying around in a warehouse somewhere for years, it might not work for you - or it might. Note that I cleaned the surface to be insulated with soap and water, then wiped with a cloth dampened with acetone and allowed to dry so the oil wouldn't affect the joint. I even tried slightly heating the intake manifold surface with a heat gun to a temperature where it would feel warm in hopes of "activating" the glue, but that didn't happen. Note again that this was a smooth surface that is not difficult to adhere to the surface of the casting. Basically I know what I'm doing and the product was too old to work. Other experiences may vary. PS - Using an industrial spray adhesive from a well known company that has an M more than a candy for a total of 3 I was able to complete my project.
