First user! Tee 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/4 Comp

Thank you for purchasing Sharkbite! I had a saddle valve that came out of the middle of the water line and a humidifier that failed (again). I was fed up and searched the internet for an "alternative poppet valve". 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/4" compression valve. make a replacement. I wanted to use a toilet shut-off valve because they're a little less terrible than saddle valves. The HD store said they have 14, have it and nothing! Literally ordered it from their parking lot with my phone. I turned off the water and opened faucets upstairs to let air in and opened a faucet downstairs to let water out. So I took a Rigid 104 pipe cutter and cut a half 3/ 4" pipe through the basement ceiling. Incidentally, a 3/4" copper water line has an actual outside diameter of 7/8". Copper pipes in the US are 1/8" larger than what they call it - that's annoying! The poppet valve left behind There was a hole in the side of the pipe so I actually had to cut both sides of the hole. The result is a copper ring. with a hole in it. Sort of like an engagement ring with a hole in it instead of a diamond. Anyway it fell on the floor u and rolled. So I didn't find it. Chalk on a pool cue. This beveled the straight cut edges so I didn't damage the insides of the Sharkbite. Then I took a pencil and marked the insertion depth (I traced the pencil along the edge of the orange thing). The depth gauge cleaning tool is cheap but definitely worth it and looks like a neon orange panpipe. For tight work you can cut the depth gauge in 3 pieces diagonally. Anyway I pulled the tubes together and they could touch so the insertion depth wasn't One problem Then I evenly but firmly clamped Sharkbite on one end of the tube, then the other. about that. Then I attached my 1/4 OD line to the small valve coming off the tee. If you are using this 1/4" clear tube to connect to a fridge ice maker or whatever you need to put a brass tube in the end (this is not included) then put one in Brass ring onto the end of the clear tube (the brass ring actually comes with it) then you tighten the nut and the ring presses onto the tube and brass insert. Or you can buy a 1/4 "stainless steel water compression line." I have one here for $7 for 6 feet. Oh yes, the compression tube is measured and apparently named for the outside diameter. The 1/4 plastic tube actually measured about 1/4 inch. It's actually a fitting because the stainless steel version is very thick, but the nuts are the same size. I parked my car at exactly 2pm and was ready by 2:28pm. Recall that I cut a pipe overhead while standing on a stool that was dripping water. Although I've been merging the system for a while. a cut? Will the sharp edge tear the inner seal? Leaking valve?). No, it's okay: and the little valve is way, way better than a saddle valve or a toilet/sink shut-off valve. I'm so happy. Only 28 minutes, I work slowly (and spend time waiting for the water to drain). I would have taken pictures but I was soaking wet lol! like buying new brass inserts for my old pipe hose) 28 minutes from turning the car off to turning on the water and sa yin "wow!"
