Worked for me but cycle lasted 15 days, from what I've read a cycle without Dr. Tims 30 days or longer. It might have been faster if I hadn't used the Fluval shrimp and vegetable substrate because it lowers the PH and I had to keep checking the PH and doing small water changes to bring the PH up to 7 or more . I didn't know anything but I did my research and it will work, but there are rules. 1. Ph cannot go below 7, if it does the cycle will stop so you can start it again by doing a partial water change. 2. Ammonia and nitrite levels must not exceed 5ppm, otherwise some beneficial bacteria may be killed and the cycle broken. You can fix this with a partial water change. 3. Please buy API master kit or similar because they are more accurate than strips, and please follow the instructions of each test bottle for accurate results if it says: shake the bottle for 1 minute then do it , shake for 30 seconds do. . 2. Shake the Dr. Tim's Bacteria bottle well this is a must have. 3. Do not vacuum up gravel or disturb the subsoil. Do not clean filter, do not change filter. This is for fresh water. I didn't do the seawater tank but if you have filter socks or UV lighting these must be removed within the first 48 hours that you add dr.tims bacteria. Filter socks are not ordinary filters, so don't take off the filter and think it's a filter sock, look at it to see the difference. 4. Use a water conditioner that does not remove ammonia. 5. If you build an aquarium with no substrate, it will take longer to cycle your aquarium since your beneficial bacteria only need to grow on your filter and possibly your aquarium walls. and decor.6. You need a source of ammonia to feed the bacteria that Dr. Tim also does not add ammonia if you have fish. These are the instructions for a fish free cycle. If you have fish, the fish will produce ammonia for you when they use the toilet. Leftover food will produce ammonia for you. 7. Use the heater and turn it back on to 82 degrees with no fish in the tank. This causes bacteria to grow faster, much like hot baths are breeding grounds for bacteria. 8. Do not add ammonia until you get a reading of 2ppm, simply add 2ppm ammonia by following the instructions on the Dr. Follow Tim's bottle. New bottles say 4 drops per gallon equals 2ppm ammonia per gallon gallon and you get your test and it shows 1ppm on the test then it's ok don't add more ammonia to get 2ppm on the test because it doesn't read 2ppm on the Testmillion, that's good Bacteria are already at work doing their job. This only applies to the first application. The equation is already done for you when you see Dr. Buy Tim's Ammonia on a Fish Free Cycle. 4 drops per gallon is 2ppm ammonia whether or not the test shows 1ppm on the first dose. dr Tim has a recipe for when to check ammonia and there's YouTube that explains the do's and don'ts, so checking it out really helped me. 9. If you don't use Dr.Tim's Ammonia it will be very difficult for you to understand what 2ppm ammonia is and if you buy ammonia from the store you should make sure the ingredient is just ammonia and possibly water. another ingredient, then no, don't use it because it will pollute your aquarium with soap, perfume and other things. 10. If ammonia and/or nitrite is above 1 ppm, do not add ammonia. Check out dr Tim's Fish Free Cycle Recipe and it will tell you when to check ammonia and other directions so you don't waste time checking liquid. Good luck, you can dr. Tim also asks questions on YouTube and his website, but YouTube takes a while to reply, try his email, it might be faster. Much luck
