I love that one of my greatest strengths is ingenuity and sheer perseverance. Don't think that such things are only useful for what they were created for. I had some nice metal-topped salt and pepper shakers that were small. I like that the metal lid looks better than the bulky white plastic lid some people come up with because it looks more realistic like a glass jar. However, metal lids have no gasket and are simply flat metal. We had constant, daily salt and pepper licks on our office floor for a year. After using the shaker and setting it upright again to put in the cupboard, a lot of salt came out of the edges of the metal lids due to the lack of a seal. It's so dirty and annoying it's beyond words. O-rings for various size can ends, from 1 3/4" OD to 1" ID, are not available. I tried hot glue, thinking that the thick layer of hot glue would allow the top edge of the can to seal the pillow, but it didn't work and I don't know why. I must have spent two days in a row looking for a printing solution on the internet and couldn't find anything. I was looking for nipples for 1 3/4" baby bottles and just cut off part of the nipple but who would have thought? No manufacturer or retailer offers pacifier sizes! Bottle Opener I marvel at the missteps of everyone in the world then changed I did my search on silicone gaskets and started to find rings but they were mainly for hardware pipes mechanical products pool pumps etc and are made from a round solid silicone tube I needed a flat piece I finally came across this product at Revain and oh my god problem solved i had to trim the very outer narrow edge of the gasket to fit the lid but it was as easy as it rests on the comb which makes it easy to run the scissors in circles and the Ring is not cut. It was the perfect fit! The 3/4" ID of this gasket only cuts a few holes in the top and bottom of the S&P letters, not enough to affect the salt and pepper shakers. In fact they always ended up being too heavy which made all the difference and I have several small unique jars of various sizes 2" to 1" OD for storing spices, beads etc and most of them came with a flat unsealed lid supplied. Now I know where to seal them in the future This seal can be tailored to almost any of them. Think outside the box and solve these tedious problems.
