Review on Sangean RCR 20 Bluetooth Charging Digital by Juan Crane

Revainrating 1 out of 5

This radio just keeps getting worse. Great sound and reception for FM and AM but there are issues.

Review updated on 10/26/2019: New problem. The LEDs located under the keys begin to go out and stop illuminating the keys at night. I cannot trust this product for long. The manufacturer's support page does not load. A star! Original Review: My biggest problem is the clock function itself. This is also the reason why I decided to write a review. It's a clock radio, after all, but RCR-20s aren't as accurate as accurate clocks. I am writing this review today, March 11, 2019, the day after Daylight Saving Time (DST) went into effect. In the RCR-20 the clocks are not automatically synchronized nor are they updated for Daylight Saving Time as I expected at 2am last night (March 10th 2019)! I went to work at 3am and the time didn't change to Daylight Saving Time at 2am. It wasn't set either when I arrived at 1:30pm. I had to do it myself so I checked the manual and nowhere in the manual does it say Daylight Saving Time! So folks, forget about daylight saving time! Setting the clock on the radio automatically requires you to follow a few MANUAL steps from the guide below, so I would hardly call it automatic. ***** The following is taken directly from the manual on the Sangean website ***** If you set the clock using the RDS function, your radio will synchronize the clock whenever it tunes to a station with RDS using CT . 1 signals . If you are tuned into a station that transmits RDS data, press and hold the Info/Menu button to enter the menu settings.2. Rotate the Tuning control until the clock icon appears on the display. Press and release the setting control button to enter the setting.3. Rotate the Tuning control until "RDS CT” appears on the display. Press and release the settings control button to confirm the setting. The radio clock will be set automatically according to the received RDS data.4. When the action is complete, the RDS icon will appear on the LCD, indicating that the radio time matches the RDS clock. The radio clock time is valid for 2 days every time the radio time is synchronized with RDS CT. ***** I don't understand the last line above at all! Do they mean radio accuracy is only guaranteed for 2 days? Do they mean that if you listen to the same station, the clock will automatically adjust every 2 days? I do not know. I'm not listening to the station I originally set the watch to. In my experience, the watch has lost approximately 56 seconds in the 5 months since the initial setup when I received it on November 9th, 2018. That puts them about 1 minute behind my other clocks that regularly reset themselves (cell phone, atomic wall clock, and clock). computers). Of course it wouldn't matter if the radio itself adjusted the time from time to time like the other devices I mentioned. The radio has good sound quality but lags behind in accurate time technology. I have not tested the NFC and Bluetooth functions so cannot comment on them and assume they work otherwise the radio would not get more than 4 stars from other reviewers as it does now. I would not recommend this radio due to timing accuracy.
