SOLID BRASS: materials for processing materials

Exactly what I was looking for! I was looking for HARD BRASS buckles and D-rings. After several visits to hardware stores and craft stores just to do a "magnet test" and find out it was just plated brass. I bought both from Okones (Okones pack with 4.1-2/7 inch inner width, solid brass rectangular buckle for straps, bags, belts, leathercraft (1-2/7 inch inner) and Okones 8 pack, 1- 2/7' inner width, solid brass ring with D-hole for belt, bag, purse, belt, leather goods (1-2/7' inner), and both passed the magnet test! Yes, it's HARD BRASS! This is for a hand made leather backpack and high gloss brass is out of place so I left them in vinegar fumes overnight and now they are tarnished and look like they are 50 years old. PERFECTION! Tarnish brass: You'll need a large glass or plastic container with a tight-fitting lid, a smaller microwave-safe container, paper towels or tissue paper, your brassware (cleaned and degreased), and apple cider vinegar. Line a large bowl with kitchen paper, fill a small bowl with vinegar and bring to a boil in the microwave. CAREFULLY! Move the small container into the large container and quickly place the copper items around (not inside) the small container. Close the lid of the large container. If you pickle brass, it won't tarnish as well as fumes. After overnight curing, take out the tarnished brass, rinse and allow to air dry, as air drying will deepen the tarnished color.

Pros
  • It oxidizes slowly. And looks like antique brass, you can enjoy the DIY process.
Cons
  • A few little things
