These radios performed very well on a recent trip/hike with several families. The range was good, the transmissions were clear. However, batteries have a very short lifespan, less than a day. So I switched to AA alkaline batteries and they last more than a week. The multipack was very good as each adult could get one as we coordinated with different children. Note that you can select FRS channels and work at low power without an FCC license, but for better range you need to use high power GMRS channels, which require an FCC license (I think currently 60 US -dollars for 5 years).
