Review on BinaryCanary by Rob Bradford
Binary Canary is a monitoring tool for server uptime.
A lot of my experience is with Logentries (which was acquired by Datadog). But BinaryCanary is offering something similar, but more targeted at IT teams. I use it to monitor the uptime of my servers and receive alerts when any downtime occurs. I've used Datadog before too and there's a lot of overlap between them and BinaryCanary. Both offer great uptime tracking services and alerts, so you don't have to pay for two products. You can choose to use either one. I think BinaryCanary is slightly better because it focuses more on Server Monitoring and gives more info about what is going on with the host, whereas Datadog offers broader coverage and gives more info about network activity and performance.
Pros
- It's easy to setup, very straightforward, quick to implement.
- I find it to be easy to understand and use.
- Easy to integrate with existing systems
Cons
- The alerting isn't as good as others, but it does the job well enough.
- I wish there was an option to setup triggers, etc...
