Hot neutral. good for electrics

These items are amazing. I bought a Klein Digital Circuit Breaker Finder (also great) but both of those tools saved me from potential damage and the outlet tester has replaced my Klein outlet tester because the front panel display also reads voltage. I was helping a friend with a new build/retro building (1950s), replacing 3 pin kitchen outlets with dual AFCI/GFCI outlets and quickly figuring out why his microwave is frying. We learned that the "grounded 3 pin sockets" were not actually grounded and were replaced a long time ago (probably to sell the house). We also learned of neutral/hot swapping. explains microwave roasting. We used the voltage readout to help us identify the possible wire exit on the other line and the downstream exits (not exact but easy to identify the first exit versus the first exit 116c on the first and the rest showed 114-115 from The switch, the next pleasant surprise when I almost changed outlets was that I used a proximity detector, apparently the first outlet showed no power with the outlet switch off hot/nuet (test on one first Socket had power to make sure it was working ), 2nd socket showed it was hot but surprise! Hot neutral detected. After double checking the switch and plugging in several different socket testers nothing was found (no hot so nothing was detected) , tried the proximity button and made sure the neutral wire was hot enough turned off altet, we went through the other hot neutral switches one at a time with the proximity pin on the wire until we found the switch that caused the hot neutral to trip. After tracing both circuits we found that the 2nd outlet in the kitchen shares neutral somewhere with the 3rd outlet on another circuit (maybe) behind the wall. Well, it wasn't a quick plug-in solution anymore. It's time to call in a professional. We almost started switching outlets before a quick "oh yeah." Oh yes, right. double, triple, quad Check that the power is off, don't assume the outlet is off. You may have a situation like mine where the neutral is fed back from a live circuit or through ground. The price is right and the socket tester's front display is superior to all other brands that I have used before. There is a flash on the handle that shows AC from high to low and also flashes/beeps on hot wires. Work).
