Review on Docking Stick Boat Hook Adapters: Convenient Package of 2 by Tim Ram

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A very useful aid when docking - beware!

I really want to give this docking device five stars. I'm seventy, my wife is sixty-five. Getting down from the boat to the pier to catch ducks has become increasingly difficult in recent years. Review: This spring I used the docking stick a couple of times to stop the boat before her bow touched the dock as we soloed into our slip at the end of the springline amidships. I can run her far from the dock with the oar forward and she will sit on the finger while I dismount and belay her. My wife seems to have a little more trouble so I'm giving it four stars. She managed to snag the boathook loop twice, resulting in the boathook being yanked from her hands instead of detaching the docking rod from the boathook. The first time she was almost pulled out of the boat. That would be very bad. I say be careful! Do your best to keep the hook on your boat hook on the opposite side of the loop at the end of your spring/mooring. Wind up as much slack in your jumping/docking line as possible so your line will pass fairly squarely over the boathook when fishing for a horn, peer or similar. If the loop is big enough, you can really catch anything. With these points in mind, this is a very good means of safe docking.
