What a lifesaver! Every Christmas Eve I host our German Christmas dinner. We fill it with authentic German products made with love for our ancestors, but with our beloved spaetzle this proved a challenge. In years past, we did it the old-fashioned way (aka the convoluted way), by cutting chunks into boiling water. This went on for ages, and the steam from the offered pot burned our hands. This Christmas I went in search of a press or manufacturer that would get the job done much more accurately and quickly and after a little research I settled on this little device. Ultimately, it took LESS than 2 MINUTES to prepare a double portion (serving for 12) of our spaetzle. It was exceptionally easy to use and created the perfect traditional-sized dumplings. Tidy like a champion! Still looks as good as when you bought it. A few notes on how I've used this appliance: Since it's all stainless steel, have an oven mitt handy when handling the handle as it gets hot. That didn't bother me as other versions with plastic grips are said to melt. The rim of the pot is fine, even fitting my giant pot, but it slides off so you have to support it with a gloved hand. I had my husband as an assistant adding batter to the tank every few seconds which not only speeded up the work but also disrupted the making of the batter on the hot spaetzle machine. I also left a small plastic ring on the bottom to keep the tank from sliding all the way off the unit (as others have mentioned, it can slide out easily during the cooking process). The plastic didn't melt and held the camera easily without interfering with the cooking process, so a win-win situation. We really liked this handy device and I'm sure it will last a long time with its quality construction. Last note? Make sure you find a good spaetzle recipe to go with it. I chose one with nutmeg as a secret ingredient, and combined with the perfect size of this tool, we've created dumplings that are every bit as authentic as I remember from my trips to Germany.
