After two shutdowns, the block died.

There are 3 modes of operation that require disconnection from the AC supply and using two consecutive maximum and minimum regulators is a special way of selecting the desired mode. Good luck if you lose the instructions as there is no indication of what mode is running. This is a kind of user interface designed by naive designers. The decision to ditch the 3-position switch and save a dollar on detail is a classic failure to understand the core concepts of an intuitive user interface. The manufacturer must appoint an adult to be responsible for the user interface.
