The timer needs to be rotated through the different time settings. If you've set if in the afternoon and it's still on at dusk it turns off at end of timer and needs to be restarted.

This is a functional timer that works well but has some serious flaws. First and foremost, when the power goes off and is restored the timer defaults to "Off” and the led display shows "F”. This makes the unit worthless as a dependable security or convenience lighting option. Where we have our lake house, the power is turned off frequently and when it is I am required to reset all three of the timers. I have now had 2 of the 3 go out. The last one to die makes a scary buzzing sound when plugged in. The 2nd one to go out lasted 1.5 yrs. The description says mechanical life is 1 yr. That is about right when you average the 2 that have now died on me. It was only set to go on at dark inside my house for the year. I guess if you are ok having to reprogram it every time the power goes out and you don’t expect them to last for much more than a year, this is a good choice for you.

These timers are GREAT for Christmas lights. I set them to come on at dusk and stay on for 8 hours. They come on and turn off perfectly! No more worrying about going outside to plug and unplug. Well worth the price charged.

This is a basic, so far reliable (4 weeks) timer I am using for bug zappers and dock lights. They are exposed to a lot of wind, moisture and salty air, but the unit looks fairly sealed so I hope they will endure.Programming is simple and my only disappointment is that they need to be reprogrammed if the power goes off or if they are unplugged. The flip side is they are inexpensive basic timers so I can’t complain that much. All three are working fine so far.

This type of photocell light sensor timer is my favorite type of timer. I use them on the strings of porch lights and on the bug lights and I don't have to worry about setting the time of day. I use the dusk to dawn option for the bug lights and set the porch lights for 3 or 4 hours. Makes my life simpler-something we all want. Only 11 months later and 2 have stopped working and I am so disappointed. I expected them to last much longer.

I bought one of these years ago at a big box home goods store. I finally had use for one again and could only find it online. I use it for my "twinkle" string lights in the back yard. It works great and it lives outside year-round. When we lose power the device resets and you need to reset the timer. Rain and snow have not been a problem. I do have it partially covered by the roof overhang, but I think it still get a lot of weather abuse.

The device performs as expected, but rain is able to enter somehow. Position it so rain can't get in when you set it up. I have some water droplets in the display and the GFCI it was plugged into tripped once during heavy rain.

I have had these for almost 2 years, I use them of the light on 2 decks. I gave one to my sister, who has been using for the lights on her RV in all sorts of weather conditions.

I use this for a string of outdoor lights year round. I like the versatility of being able to set it so the lights are on from 1 to 9 hours. But because it is electronic and has no battery back up, if there is a power bump it goes back to default and you have to set it again. That is inconvenient for me.

It’s an excellent value, allows outdoor lighting to illuminate for 1-2-3-4 hrs from dusk. I does not have an adjustment for how dark dusk is… so it may power on earlier or later than you expect. If you’re not looking precision in the turn-on time it does the job in a nice small waterproof box

Very easy to set with one button, digital screen. Several different settings to choose from. There is a dusk to dawn setting. Set it and forget it. Great for outdoor lighting. I would buy again and I recommend.

These have worked great, even when it’s rained or snowed. I do have covers on my outlet to keep the plug dry. I like that it goes up to 9 hours for when it gets dark so early so the lights don’t go out before I want them to. I put one out front and one out back with an extra. The only downside is that it’s large so I can only have this plugged into the outlet and the cover doesn’t close as well as I’d like.

We used the Photocell Light Sensor for our outdoor Christmas decorations and they were so much easier than the timers we used to use.
