This fireplace insert is great in many ways and inferior in only two. What's great is that it fits our little fireplace perfectly and the power cord is long enough to access our outlet even though it's on the opposite side of the unit (the cord is on the right of the unit). The flame effect is very realistic and works whether the heater is on or not. Speaking of heat, this device warmed up our 600sqm basement very well. Foot! I had to turn off the heating after an hour! And while we're on the subject of warmth, let's talk about what's missing from this insert. It heats well but there is no way to regulate the temperature so either it heats or it doesn't heat! Another disadvantage is the ember effect. You can adjust the brightness of the embers, but you can't stop them from dimming and brightening every 5 seconds or so. This is the only feature that slightly reduces the realism of the effect. Aside from two minor blemishes, this fireplace insert is a great addition to our basement for a little fireplace atmosphere and lots of warmth. It is certainly comparable to more expensive brands. I highly recommend it.
