Using a cheap fire pit, I have used multiple methods to protect the deck. However, while these other options work, they can be an eyesore. The issue is not the fire but the heat coming from the bottom of the fire pit. This mat protects the deck from the heat and looks good as well. Either way, this isn't meant to protect the deck from a fire, so a protective screen should be on top if you plan to use it on a wooden deck.

This fire mat from Cast Master does what it says on the tin. It is made of a durable, light(ish)-weight material. We have used it on a deck, grass, and concrete and it has worked well. Our biggest gripe is the big logo on either side. I wish they had placed it in the middle, but it is really in your face when everyone is sitting around the fire.

This mat is very small but it seems to work for our very small 22" fire pit. It didn't come with instructions so I had to look up the listing to make sure I was putting the correct side down (I wasn't, glad I looked it up! ) but it's great quality and I feel better about using my firepit on the deck.

Got this for our portable smokeless fire pit and it has a 15 inch diameter and 15 inch height. keeps me from having to worry about burning the ground or leaving blackened chard grass or catching the forest on fire when taking a camping

This is a bit flimsy and not quite as effective as I'd hoped. It does a fair job of deflecting heat, but under a all-night hot fire, my grass still was scorched and did'nt get as much protection as this promised. THis helped mitigate some of the damage bt does not stop it all together.

I have a smaller smokeless firepit that you could seat 4-6 people around. This is the perfect size to go underneath of it to protect the concrete from excess heat. It seems to be heavy-duty and so I expect it to last many seasons without tearing or fading. Its design and thickness do well to prevent heat-soak underneath your fire.

This is a good firepit mat, and I love how it helps radiate some of the heat back up from the ground. I got this in advance of getting a deck, as I’ve always used my firepit on a concrete slab and didn’t have to worry. I’ve been testing this with my slab and do see a difference in the heat under the unit, carefully lifting up the edge and measuring the under temp compared to without it.
