The supplier describes this as "high quality". Whatever the opposite of high quality, it is. Cheap plastic, easily damaged, and the detachable top cover design is a great example of planned obsolescence. For 40β¬ I expected more. This replaces a very similar design that lasted more than 15 years. He can be much older. It has survived hail, dog smashes, extreme heat, UV exposure, etc. Compared to this model, thicker materials were used, the durable plastic felt better, and the design had several standout features. The top cover of the previous device was thicker, tilted back, and had a latch. The flip and snap design makes it very easy to open and close to remove lint. In this case, the top cover is a snap-on design. The entire lid must be level and locked in place after opening. The fit is *very* snug, which is good for moisture protection, but since the fit is very snug and the plastic is lower quality than the model it replaces, it takes significant pressure to ensure it's snug All over. The housing that the top cover snaps into is not strong enough to withstand the pressure required to snap the top cover into place. Therefore, you must support the bottom of the case with one hand to apply the necessary pressure to snap the top cover into place. I have concerns that it might tear or break at some point. Although the reason for the purchase is that one of the hinges broke on an old device, the hinges lasted at least 15 years before breaking. It was attached to the house when I bought it and even then it looked a bit weathered. The floating vent cap looks like it's made out of the same translucent plastic as some disposable plastic containers or paint caps. Very flexible and fragile feeling. The old block was slightly larger in diameter and made of heavier, thicker, and stiffer plastic. It didn't bend at all, stuck firmly in place and sealed very well. I tried using an old float for this, but it didn't work. Although the old one was heavier, it floated higher than this one. The higher the float, the less likely it will fuzz and need cleaning more often. The old one probably floated a bit higher due to the larger diameter trapping more air. Replacing the old block was easy as the hole pattern is almost identical to this one. Installation took less than 40 minutes, the work was slow and involved caulking around the flanges to prevent moisture and air leaks. Easy installation. Time will tell if it lasts as long as the previous session. I'm skeptical, but at the same time it seems to be quite well ventilated. It costs twice as much as the competition, but they're probably just as cheap to copy as this one. There is a metal version from another manufacturer. If this one breaks I'll happily pay the extra 35% to buy a metal product knowing it will likely be the last thing I have to buy.
