I was planning to just take these and skip the metal springs on our 10 year old Maytag front loader, the drum started to wobble and began to squeak. I bet I could bypass the shocks and just replace the springs, which I got as an OEM from a local parts depot for less than $23 a pair elsewhere. The dampers just keep the drum from moving around the 4 corners and the springs do all the hard work. My Maytag set is complicated and I had to ask for help removing the dryer to change the springs, but it's easy. Go to my washing machine and change it. It seems to be working fine after 1 month.
