Review on 🎧 Radioddity RS22 Remote Speaker Mic: Clear Sound for Baofeng, Kenwood & TYT Two Way Radios (Single PTT) by Adam Bates

The first thing that struck me was the overall weight of the microphone, which is directly proportional to its rugged construction. The audio-out/headphone jack is very handy and is covered with a rubber dust cover that doesn't fit well. On the first transmission, the person who received my transmission said that I was very mute. I ran a few more tests, and in fact, the mic didn't pick up my voice even remotely clearly. Don't do it like me, I'm quite an experienced electronics DIYer! I opened the microphone, knowing full well that any warranty would immediately expire. The first thing I found was a rolled up o-ring also wedged between the plastic parts of the case. After removing the internal circuit board, I found that the hole in the front of the unit that was intended for audio transmission to the internal component microphone was NOT aligned at all! I drilled an extra hole right in front of the component mic, which improved transmission quality, but not quite. After digging around on the PCB for a while, I found that the component mic mates with a number of other electronic components that I believe have some sort of filtering effect on the sound picked up by my voice. As a result, I bypassed all this garbage on the board and went straight to the input of the radio with a signal. My transmissions are now almost crystal clear. It took some modifications to turn this speaker/mic into what I was hoping for. The most disappointing thing is that the device is very solid and made of thick high quality reinforced plastic, but the sound is terrible. The size fits my hands perfectly and the speaker sound is fantastically loud. If a manufacturer could design and build an internal mic with improvements, it would be a truly AWESOME speaker mic! The buyer should not change and improve where the manufacturer falls short.
