In my experience, orange night lights help you get your bearings and then go back to sleep.

I use these lamps in my bathroom night light and they work great. From what I've heard, amber light is healthier because it doesn't stimulate the pineal gland in the middle of the night. (Blue light at night has been linked to an increased susceptibility to breast cancer, not to mention insomnia.) Expensive, yes, but the last pack I bought was 2 years ago. It is worth being able to navigate at night and then fall asleep immediately.
