Comes with powder so I can read and calibrate the pH meter accurately. It works well enough for home use, so I wouldn't force a scientific reputation on it. I somehow got two kits at once and they often have different opinions about pH even though they put it in the same solution at the same time. For this reason I kept them both; to see how they have maintained their accuracy and function. Also, I can use it for travel. This set isn't as "instantly readable" in seconds. I also believe the sensor should be covered in some kind of film, although I'm reading almost clear water and it helps to dip and shake a few times before getting what seems to be the most accurate. I screen tap water, water from my distillery, and bottled distilled water. All in all very easy to use. Easy to read. Calibration was easy if you follow the instructions.
