When my granddaughter made the switch from the cradle to the double bed, we needed a mattress that was comfortable yet supportive for the little sleeper. This mattress is the perfect combination of the support of an orthopedic mattress and the softness of foam. The mattress fits her double bed well and isn't too thick for regular double sheets like some other mattresses I've used before. It was packaged in a medium sized box and wrapped tightly in plastic. After opening it with the tool provided, we let it air out (to remove odors from the materials) and stretch it out while the foam inflates with air over several days. It was a very easy process and I didn't find anything difficult opening the package. I can't talk about the cooling aspect of the gel as we have a vinyl mattress pad on top of the mattress to prevent stains from an accidental baby accident. However, the combination of support and added comfort of the gel foam certainly makes the mattress great and has made the transition to a double bed a lot easier for my granddaughter. Highly recommended!
