Doesn't work well with my MP3 player

I am disappointed in this product. It works great when connected to my phone, but only plays sound from one side of my speakers when connected to my MP3 player! I've tried everything to get it to work with my MP3 player but it's full of hiss and only plays from my front driver's side speakers. When I plug in my phone, all my speakers have a crisp and clear sound. I really wish my Radio Shack auxiliary cable wasn't dying on me.
