I ordered my first of these microwaves on May 5, 2017. After just a few weeks it overheated and stopped working for a reasonable amount of what I would call long-term use rather than continuous use for several hours. I have used other microwave ovens of the same power over the past 25 years with no problems. After the first one overheated, it stopped working and wouldn't turn on. I requested a refund and replacement because I really liked the size and depth of this microwave and it fit the hole in my cabinet that it was put in, so I ordered a new one on May 17, 2017. Came the same microwave model and it also overheated with long term use but this one was a bit different. It turns off when overheated, cools down and turns on again. For 16 months this microwave has worked perfectly most of the time, unless we have used it for a long period of time, i.e. to heat up several dishes in a row, e.g. B. 8 minutes for Brussels sprouts and then 6 minutes for potatoes, which is the case. Our previous, very old microwave coped with it without any problems. My previous old microwave oven could handle multiple casseroles being reheated one at a time for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals made the night before. This microwave CANNOT! I would have to attach a fan to keep it cool in time for it to restart and I could reheat the holiday dinner to get ready for the oven. I was still willing to try and live with it because again I liked the size of this microwave. But then, on September 16, 2018, after my husband put a potato in the microwave to reheat for 5 minutes, it just stopped working without completing the 5 minute cycle. OF COURSE this failure occurs after owning it for 16 months, 4 months after my warranty expired. I spoke to Sharp the next day and they said it was not a guarantee but they would discuss how to resolve my situation and get back to me the next day. True to their word, they contacted me the next day and offered me a $77 replacement that would be exactly my microwave EXCEPT one thing, it was only in BLACK. My entire kitchen is WHITE, so that doesn't work! They then offered me a smaller, white one that didn't fit in my casserole dish or in the hole in my cupboard where this would fit perfectly. So for $77 I thought maybe I could find a handyman to fix it for about the same amount. Today, September 25th, Master came out, opened the microwave and showed me where not only the fuse had blown, but the plastic casing had started to FIRE. It could possibly burn down OUR HOUSE! (SEE PHOTOS.) The repair cost was even $100 after I negotiated with him to lower that $120 cost. I never leave feedback on the Revain, but I do feel personally responsible for letting others know that there is something wrong with the design of this model. With all the technology out there in this world, I can't believe they haven't redesigned this model into a safer model that's comparable in size to the original, but I definitely don't have to pay another $175 or more to buy an upgrade , more secure a version of the same microwave model after only 16 months of ownership. Shame on Sharp's designers for creating such a poor and unsafe design and not pulling it off the market and recalling it as soon as this problem became apparent to consumers. I wish I had read the negative reviews and not just the positive ones. We've sent astronauts to the moon, but Sharp somehow fails to develop the technology to create a safe and efficient design for an otherwise superbly designed microwave oven. So disappointed and at the same time so grateful that our house didn't catch fire. Now warn everyone!
